Thank you for a great music year at Fairmount Park!

Dear FP Families and Students-

Thank you for a great 2016-17 school year. I hope you have a great summer and those of you playing instruments, don’t forget to practice this summer. Hold your mouse over the |BAND| or |ORCHESTRA| links above; look for your instrument and go there for some scale sheets and videos for your instrument.

Choir Changes Next Year-

We are making some changes to choir next year. We will still meet after school for one hour on Tuesday and Thursday, but we are making some name and grade changes for each choir:

Choir on Tuesday after school will be called Choir 2.3 and will be for students in grades 2 and 3.

Choir on Thursday after school will be called Choir 4.5 and will be for students in grades 4 and 5.

You will need to register online for choir again in the fall. Look for details in the Falcon Flyer September 2017.

Instrumental Music-

Students in grades 4 and 5 have an opportunity to study a band and orchestra instrument with Mr. Pendergrass. This is a “pull-out” program during the school day and is in addition to their regular classroom general music class. You can find out all of the details about this program by clicking on the |INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC OVERVIEW| link above. All 4th graders will be getting more information and an opportunity to sample some instruments in the music classroom come September 2017.

Band, Choir and Orchestra rehearsals are done for the 2016-17 school year.

Dear Band, Choir and Orchestra Families-

The week of June 5 was our last week of rehearsals for band, choir and orchestra. If you borrowed a school instrument from me, please return it ASAP (or email me if you would like to borrow it over the summer.)

If you are renting an instrument, see if you can keep it over the summer so you can practice. Learn the major scales and rudiments I have given you and set a goal of memorizing at least two of them, up and down, before you return in September. Try and plan practice times around any travel plans you have. Set goals for memorizing the scales I have given you. (lost your copy? Go to your instrument page (band or orchestra) to download a new copy)

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT NEXT YEAR

  • All 4th grade band and orchestra students will be promoted into Intermediate band or orchestra next school year. This means that your lesson will be once a week with the entire 5th grade band (flutes, clarinets, alto saxes, trumpets, trombones, baritones, percussion) combined, or the entire 5th grade orchestra (all violins, violas and cellos) combined.
  • If you were a 4th grader in intermediate orchestra this year, next year you will be promoted to the advanced orchestra.
  • In these combined rehearsals you will be getting band and orchestra music similar to “Theme for Spring” and “Simple Hoedown” in preparation for a Winter concert in January and a Spring concert in June.
  • Come back to this website and go to your instrument page to find some resources for practicing over the summer.

Thanks for a great year!
