Information about Instrumental Music and Friday Assembly Performances

Mr. Pendergrass sent out the following in the Falcon Flyer for this week:

  • To all 4th and 5th grade parents that turned in enrollment forms for instrumental music: I have received your forms about instrumental music and this week I hope to send a note home with your student detailing 1) What instrument they will be playing; 2) Next steps on where and how to get an instrument; 3) What day and time they will have their lesson during the week. Thanks for your patience. I am still waiting on some district instruments to be delivered, but we should have a schedule and final details soon.
  • FRIDAY ASSEMBLY PERFORMANCES- Last Friday, Ms. Breidenbach announced that kids can have an opportunity to perform for others at our regularly scheduled Friday Assembly in the lunch room at 10:00-10:30 a.m. We have had kids play piano, sing a solo or duet , and perform a dance or athletic routine. Performances are between 2-5 minutes in length and are only scheduled after they contact Mr. Pendergrass. The very first step is to get a blue Friday Assembly Sign-Up Sheet from Mr. Pendergrass, take it home, fill it out, and return in to Mr. Pendergrass. You can also download the form here:

Welcome to music at Fairmount Park

Dear Families and Students-

I am so excited to be your music teacher this year at Fairmount Park! We have a beautiful new building and an amazing new music room! You can always find out the latest music news and access this website anytime at

In addition to seeing all the students for general music classes during the school day this year, there are some other music opportunities I hope you will take advantage of including:

  • Choir before school for grades 1-5. Students will learn how to be confident, expressive singers with a variety of music, including songs from other cultures and in different languages. Unlike many of the before school activities, choir meets the entire school year so students can sing at various concerts and district festivals during the year. You need to sign-up by filling out an enrollment form- just click on the CHOIR tab above for the form and information.
  • Instrumental music for grades 4-5. Students can learn how to play a band or orchestra instrument at Fairmount Park. Click on the INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC tab above for all the details.
  • Friday Assemblies. Any student can perform at our regularly scheduled 10:00 a.m. Friday assemblies. Singers, pianists, instrumentalists from all grades are encouraged to perform for the student body at this assembly. Mr. Pendergrass will explain how this works at one of our Friday Assemblies very soon.

And parents, if you have a music skill to share or want to volunteer in the music program, please send me an email: I’m looking forward to meeting you and making music with my new Falcon friends.
